Vertical: volts, centre, coupling and filter
How big the trace is, where it sits, and how to scale, AC-couple or filter the signal.
Volts per division
How many volts each of the eight divisions up the screen represents. Fewer volts per division make a small signal bigger. Keyboard: Up arrow for a bigger trace, Down arrow for a smaller one.
Centre voltage
The voltage at the middle line of the screen. Each press moves it half a division; you can also drag the trace up or down on the screen. Because the boards measure from 0 V up, a centre near the middle of the signal (for example 1.65 V for a signal from 0 V to 3.3 V) usually fits best.
More vertical
Open More vertical for input conditioning and digital filtering:
- Coupling: DC shows the full voltage measured at the pin. AC subtracts the capture’s mean voltage so you can inspect small ripple or audio around 0 V without the DC offset pushing the trace off the screen. This is done in software after the board’s ADC, so the signal at the pin must still stay within the board’s safe voltage range.
- Probe: 1x for a direct wire or a 1x probe; 10x when you use a 10:1 divider probe or external resistor divider, scaling every voltage reading and measurement by ten.
- Invert: flips the signal upside down around 0 V.
- Filter: Off, Low-pass or High-pass. Low-pass smooths out high-frequency noise above Filter cutoff (Cutoff); High-pass removes slow drift and hum below Cutoff. Both run forward and backward across the capture so edges are not shifted in time.
